Child Abuse: A Manifestation of Bad Governance

Good governance is manifested with a high degree of equal access among citizens to primary needs like shelter, health care, job opportunities, without considering racial, religious, or ethnic affiliation. The basic principle underlying good governance is the admittance of partnership between the government and its citizens.

Nonetheless, government means power and most of the time, power leads to abuse and exploitation. Although there is a set of laws and constitution for every government, the implementation of the same is not good enough to prevent abuse and exploitation especially among women and children.

Good governance is manifested with a high degree of equal access among citizens to primary needs like shelter, health care, job opportunities, without considering racial, religious, or ethnic affiliation. Nonetheless, government means power and most of the time, power leads to abuse and exploitation. Although there is a set of laws and constitution for every government, the implementation of the same is not good enough to prevent abuse and exploitation especially among women and children.

Thus, bad governance entails abuse.

Child exploitation and abuse are at an alarming state nowadays. More and more pedophiles and predators are gaining ground even in developed countries. The victims of abuse meanwhile are commonly from the child population.

Child abuse cannot be tolerated – that remains a fact. However, law enforcement authorities do not have the will to curb the problem because they are more preoccupied with other government affairs. We should not forget that the existence of the government is to provide stability to a civilized population. Man is by instinct violent and without serious attention given to societal problems such as child abuse, there’s no guarantee that our children will be safe from exploitation.

Child abuse born out of bad governance does not only involve minors being sexually exploited or forced into labor, but may also include depriving them of their basic needs such as food, shelter, and health. For many third world nations, majority of the population lack access to basic needs and putting them into agony is definitely a form of child abuse.
Thus, one thing very important for states and governments is to straighten out government policies and rule in order to establish a better environment for children. Part of that policy is to enforce child exploitation laws and penalties that can actually instill fear to the offenders.
