Do Teenagers Love Technology More than Their Parents?

Unfortunately for most American parents, technology has turned against them when it comes to maintaining a good relationship with their children. It’s kind of ironic knowing that the more your teenage child hooks himself to communication technology, the more he alienates himself on you.

Unfortunately for most American parents, technology has turned against them when it comes to maintaining a good relationship with their children. It’s kind of ironic knowing that the more your teenage child hooks himself to communication technology, the more he alienates himself on you.

What am I really talking about? The thing is the development of several forms of communication media has given our kids more reason to ignore us and just be contented in corresponding with others. You see, reaching the adolescent stage means they are much more inclined to speak and hang out with friends rather than stay at home listening to your scolding and dissenting opinion on every stupid thing they do.

Mobile phones, internet, email, instant messaging, and chat make them pretty much enjoyed with all the free and live communication. By allowing them to use technology means giving them complete liberty and freedom. But disallowing them isn’t feasible as well since you might just be giving them reason to rebel or protest, not to mention; the kind of world we live in today makes it cruel and unkind.

Let’s face it, technology is attached to teenagers. Although you cannot deny them of their right to it, you can actually limit their use of it. Whatever’s in excess is bad and so are texting, internet, and others. The only way to keep teenagers civilized and disciplined is by establishing a set of ground rules when it comes to access in communication technology.

Some notable measures include putting up parental software for secured web access, limiting the use of mobile phones, and placing the computer anywhere but the bedroom of your kid. With parental software, you get help in guaranteeing that your teen does not get malicious content from the web. By limiting the cell phone access, you limit phone bills and at the same time discipline your child as to what are those instances when they aren’t allowed to use their phones, like when going to church or having dinner. And by placing the desktop where you can see and monitor it every time, you are more assured that your child is not doing something that’s not likeable.
