Driving Basics for Teenagers

Almost half of car accidents in the United States are blamed on teen drivers. Not that they should be banned from driving, it’s just that serious measures should be done in order to limit road accidents that involve them.

Getting a first car is every teenager’s dream. But in reality, driving takes more than having a license and learning to handle the wheel. In fact, it involves many things that a teen needs to know just to secure a safe driving experience away from harm and danger from the road. Driving is a very serious responsibility every teen should be willing to embrace if he wants to grab that dream car.

Apart from driving basics, here are other vital things a teen driver needs to know before stepping on the gas:

- Learn how to check and add coolant for the radiator and oil for the engine.
- Know how to pump gasoline to the car.
- Be able to identify brake fluid level.
- Master where the tools and spare tire are located.
- Learn how to change a tire.
- Know how to jump start the car.
- Master lighting and signals.
- Learn how to reduce and maintain speed.

Since a normal teen usually gets excited for his first ride, it’s the parent’s responsibility to always remind him of slowing down. There’s no point in speeding since it only leads to either accidents or being caught. Although most of the things mentioned here are pretty common, most parents still forget to remind their teens and that may unfortunately lead to road accidents and for some, even fatalities.
