Healing Pedophiles: Is it really Possible?

While so many experts contend that the state of being a pedophile is impossible to heal, there is actually a glimmer of hope for recovery. The common belief is that child molesters, predators, and pedophiles do not have room to change. This means that by the time they start to sexually abuse children, the process becomes never ending. But is it really the true scenario?

Sex is the main trigger. But for pedophiles, it’s not just an ordinary type of sex drive since the ones they fantasize are innocent children and minors. The sexual addiction is driven by the belief that when they abuse a victim, they are actually showing and manifesting love, care, affection, and mutual relationship. Of course, we all know that’s not true. The reality is the moment a person becomes a pedophile, there is no turning back. Now, is this true?

Sex is the main trigger. But for pedophiles, it’s not just an ordinary type of sex drive since the ones they fantasize are innocent children and minors. The sexual addiction is driven by the belief that when they abuse a victim, they are actually showing and manifesting love, care, affection, and mutual relationship. Of course, we all know that’s not true. The reality is the moment a person becomes a pedophile, there is no turning back. Now, is this true?

I would say that it’s not entirely accurate. Yes, pedophiles may never change if they have already victimized many and have inflicted physical abuse and pain to them. Most of the time, resorting to violence is the boundary that separates those who are capable of healing and those who are not. This means that as long as the person has not carried out an actual abuse, but is manifesting the tendency towards doing so, there is still hope for recovery. Consider these points:

- If you think you have a sense of attraction to children that’s way beyond normal, don't brush it off. Get professional help.

- If you are attracted to children or teens, never put yourself in a situation where you are alone with a child or minor. Also, get an accountability partner. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can fight this yourself. You need someone to keep tabs on you and the situatuions you place yourself in.

- Please understand that this is a spiritual battle, one that you cannot fight alone. You must be open and honest with others about what you are battling. If you have touched or had sexual contact of any kind with a child, I know jail may be a scary thought, but it is the only certain way to stop you from abusing again. It may be the only hope you have.

- Control what you see on TV or the internet and rid your life of any and all pornography. Any sexual imagery that you take in will desensitize your mind towards sex and build up your fantasies.

- Be aware that there is a common misconception among child sex abusers that what they do is loving towards children and that they love children. If you touch a child sexually, you are damaging them for life. It is not loving. It is not innocent. You do not have a relationship with them and they do not want you to touch them sexually, no matter what you think.

We often speak on this site about the power that Jesus Christ has to heal victims, and He certainly does. He also has the power to change you into a new person. You don't have to live with these dark thoughts and urges. You don't have to be the abuser. However, the only way is through complete surrender to Christ and complete honest about your sin. Remember, the truth will set you free.
