What can you do as an American Citizen?

• Stop viewing these girls as criminals. The vast majority of them did not choose this life out of desire, but rather coercion.

• Understand that the driving force for all prostitution is men’s lustful desire for sex on demand. This always has and always will be the reason why prostitution exists. If there is an alarming rise in this sexual exploitation of youth in our communities, perhaps it’s related to our societal norms and popular media that endorse the satisfaction of sexual desires on demand.

• Based on that point, realize that there is a responsibility on the part of every decent citizen to ensure that the strictest laws are in place aimed at the traffickers and pimps, and to ensure that a system in in place to help girls and boys get out of prostitution.

•  Now move. Write to your representatives in Washington and in your state. Tell them how you feel and what you want to see done. You can even start a group in your church or community center aimed at helping girls in your area. Remember, the greatest weapon is prevention. You may not be able to get kids out of sex slavery, but there are many girls and boys that could use your help staying out of a dangerous situation like trafficking.

A note to our fellow Christians reading this: the young girls and boys trapped in these are literally in prison. A sadistic, torturous prison. Remember the promise and warning from Jesus given in Matthew 25. Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘ Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘ Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.

“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’

And the King will say, ‘ I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these, my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me”

What an incredible promise. We can actively show love to Jesus Himself simply by showing love to those in this world who are hungry, lost, naked, dejected, trapped and alone. A perfect example are these children trapped in sexual exploitation. Be mindful also, though, of the following warning from the same chapter.

“’Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons. For I was hungry and you didn’t feed me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t give me a drink. I was a stranger, and you didn’t invite me into your home. I was naked, and you didn’t give me clothing. I was sick and in prison, and you didn’t visit me. ‘” Jesus responds to their pleas with this answer “I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.”

So, loving God can be equated to showing love to those in need, but refusing to help those we know need help is the same as refusing to help God. Search your heart and pray. Ask the Lord to show you how He wants you to go about helping these children that are dear to His heart.
